Quick Newbie Question
So I've recently purchased the Guild Wars Trilogy and the whole "/bonus" command just dawned on me. Anyway, for a new character, you're given your selection of weapons which require things such as "(Level 9 Hammer Mastery), (Level 9 Curses)" and so forth.
What happens when my warrior equips one of these hammers which requires level 9 hammer mastery? I can equip it, and I'm doing damage with it, but what does it mean if my hammer mastery is not at 9 when I'm using it? Thanks muchly. |

If you don't meet the requirements you will do less damage than the weapon states.
You should put in "requirement" on the wiki |

Using Rhino's Charge as an example, you get
1. the 15>50 damage increase 2. the chance for increased armor penetration (called Sundering) 3. the damage increase from customization 4. the blunt damage is reduced to starter weapon range until you reach the requirement with slight increases for levels. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Damage_calculation Blunt damage: 19-35 (Req. 9 Hammer Mastery) Damage +15% (while Health is above 50%) Armor penetration +20% (Chance: 20%) Damage +20% (customized)

To be exact, you will do the same damage as with the starter weapon you have from the beginning. That is very little. For astart you should just pick up low lvl weapons that monsters drop, most are better than starter weapon. Next step is leveling up so you can afford to put in 9 attribute for a bonus weapon. They are max damage, so when that is done you can actually play the rest of the game with it. At a later stage when you can afford it, you can start looking after more expensive weapons with cool skins, or just with mods that suit you better.
Btw I think Darcy is wrong, you will only do 3-5 damage with hammer if you do not meet the requirement. Last edited by Raven Wing; May 03, 2010 at 01:29 PM // 13:29.. |

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Requirement
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Damage_calculation There. Requirement does lower damage to that of a starter weapon if you don't meet the req. Then damage calculation takes into account your attribute level and gives you a slight bonus depending on it. |

As Songbringer said, not meeting the requirement of a weapon makes its damage equal to that of a starter weapon. Higher weapon mastery will still make the weapon do more damage, though.
Shields are different, if you do not meet the requirement you only recieve half the armor. (ie you are wearing a q9 tactics 16ar shield and you only have 4 tactics, you'll only get 8 armor. You won't get additional armor if you get more tactics) |

Just to further clarify if necessary:
If you do not meet the requirement of an item, whatever is listed next to the requirement will act as if it is a starter item. So the damage range of a sword would drop to 2-3, etc. However, anything that does not have the requirement listed after it is unaffected. You will still gain the full benefit from those bonuses.
